Believe it or not, this luxurious bungalow kitchen used to be "Grandma's Kitchen" complete with asbestos tile flooring, bright yellow cabinets, and turquoise painted walls and woodwork. The Peterson's have brought the bungalow back to life with an all new kitchen design meant to complement the original architecture.
The original douglas fir flooring was uncovered and refinished to match the new custom cabinets. The wall cabinets have custom made leaded glass designed to match windows in other parts of the house. Art nouveau accent tiles adorn the backsplash, which is made from reclaimed crackle finish subway tiles. Antique door and drawer hardware and a stunning three-pulley light fixture anchor this kitchen to its past, while new stainless steel appliances give it a modern touch while maintaining a traditional style.

A basement bathroom remodel in a century-old house can be a little tricky. Not only do you have to deal with limited space and headroom, but you have to consider the design style. Do you want to do something modern that may not match the style of the other floors, or do you want to stay true to the original architectural style of the house? How about both?
This basement bathroom remodel uses almost all new materials (except the reclaimed door), but stays true the concepts that were important to homebuilders of the early 20th century.
Natural slate tiles and tall stained baseboards are a good use of natural materials. The vessel sink on a freestanding vanity, as well as the jetted bathtub add modern touches. The washer and dryer are in the bathroom to make use of limited space in a bungalow basement.

This bungalow bathroom may look fantastic, but it took a total bathroom remodel to get it to this point. The homeowners swapped yellow panelling for subway tiles and faux-stone tiles for traditional hex tiles. A fiberglass bathtub was replaced by a new corner shower, and a new toilet and pedestal sink round out the nicely remodeled bathroom, bringing it back to its former glory.
